ACT
NOW!
Express
how you feel!
For a full explanation on how to write a letter to the editor or an opinion editorial (op-ed), please read the media kit compiled by the FAIR organization. Most importantly, letters to the editor must be BRIEF, clear, timely and responsive to the articles recently published in that newspaper/magazine. Always include your full name, email address, home address, telephone number and the date of writing. If provided, use the form on the newspaper's website when sending the letter via email. Op-eds are actual articles that combine the timeliness of a news story with a personal voice. They follow a certain structure: the opening reminds the reader of the occasion for the piece (professional writers begin with a catchy scenario or thoughtful insight), the argument comes in the middle, and the conclusion is an articulate, dramatic restatement of the writer's position or recommendation (tell your readers exactly what you want them to think or do). It is important that you call the editor in charge of opinion pieces and instigate interest for your topic, following up once you send the article. Remember that editors rarely get further than a third paragraph. Tips: keep most sentences short, direct, informal and dramatic; be concrete (use real names, dates, places, events); move from a specific problem to a broader public issue; be respective of your adversaries; use the spell and grammar check; ask others to read your drafts; follow your newspaper and read the published opinions to assess editors' interests. Read letters and opinions published by the SANE community at "SANE & Press"! Follow

Please do not write on behalf of SANE and do not use SANE's name unless you have an explicit permission from the SANE Board (it is against the law). Good luck!

The Zend Optimizer is one of the most popular PHP plugins for performance-improvement, and has been available without charge, since the early days of PHP 4. It improves performance by scanning PHP's intermediate code and passing it through multiple Optimization Passes to replace inefficient code patterns with more efficient code blocks. The replaced code blocks perform exactly the same operations as the original code, only faster.
In addition to improving performance, the Zend Optimizer also enables PHP to transparently load files encoded by the Zend Guard.
The Zend Optimizer is a free product available for download from Zend Technologies. Zend Technologies also developed the PHP scripting engine, known as the Zend Engine.
